*No obligation to book a consultation & therapy sessions.

Feeling stretched by everyday demands, reacting more sharply than you intend, then feeling guilty afterwards

Overthinking and worry

Replaying conversations, second-guessing decisions, or getting caught in the loop of “what ifs”.

Switching off and sleep

Finding it hard to unwind or settle into sleep when your mind is busy or your body feels tense.

Confidence and self-doubt

Holding back in meetings, presentations, or social situations because you worry about getting it wrong.

Boundaries and expressing your needs

Struggling to say no, ask for support or speak openly about what matters to you.

Specific fears and avoidance

Avoiding particular situations, animals or places because the fear feels difficult to manage.

02 / MY APPROACH

.

How Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH) works

.

.
.
.
.

If you value clarity, structure, and a personalised plan for moving forward, you’re in the right place!

.

CBH is an evidence-based* integrative therapeutic approach combining Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), clinical hypnosis, mindfulness and elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).Together, we’ll explore how your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and physical sensations influence one another, and what keeps unhelpful patterns going. We’ll work towards goals that matter to you through personalised, practical exercises that help you respond more helpfully to challenging situations, build resilience, and find more space for joy in everyday life.By the end of our work, I want you to feel more confident in handling whatever comes your way, knowing you have the exact tools you need to support yourself moving forward.

*Evidence-based means grounded in scientific research into the nature of hypnosis and its clinical applications, alongside established psychological approaches such as CBT. It draws on accepted psychological principles and the best available evidence to guide therapeutic practice.

What is clinical hypnosis?

.

Clinical hypnosis is one of the therapeutic approaches we may use within CBH. It uses focused attention, imagination, and therapeutic suggestions to help you create and rehearse more helpful ways of responding to challenging situations. It is a highly collaborative process. You will be guided through the exercises, and your feedback will help us adapt the approach and pace to what you feel comfortable with. You may feel relaxed and absorbed in the experience, but deep relaxation is not essential. No previous experience of special skills is needed. All you need to bring is your curiosity and imagination!

.

What is isn't ...

→ It isn't stage hypnosis

No swinging pendulums or theatrical performances. We use guided exercises with a clear therapeutic purpose.

→ It isn't sleep or unconsciousness

It's not about falling asleep or reaching a particular depth of relaxation. You can remain aware of what is happening and have the freedom to pause or stop the exercise at any time. In fact, we do not want you fall asleep completely as you will not be able to use your focussed attention to follow the hypnotic suggestions.

→ It isn't mind control

I will explain the purpose and process of the exercises before we proceed, and you are free to ask any questions. It is completely up to you how you engage with the therapeutic suggestions.

→ It isn't past-life regression

Past-life regression is not part of the evidence-based CBH approach I use. Our work will focus on understanding your current challenges and learning helpful responses.

Is clinical hypnosis suitable for me?

Before using hypnosis, we will review your health and emotional well-being questionnaires and discuss your medical and psychological history to assess whether it is appropriate for you. I will explain each exercise, and you can ask questions, pause, or stop at any time. Some conditions require particular care. The National Health Service (NHS, UK) advises that hypnotherapy may not be suitable for people with schizophrenia, a history of psychosis, or epilepsy. Where appropriate, I may recommend seeking medical advice or, with your consent, liaise with your GP. Depending on the assessment, hypnosis may not be suitable, and I may recommend a referral. Please note that individuals' responses to CBH vary, and specific outcomes
cannot be guaranteed.

03 / About me

.

.

Heya, I'm Sandy.

I've often wondered why we weren't taught more about resilience at school.

How many of us are only learning this now, when we're already buried in endless demands from work, family, children and our own health? Add to that, the overwhelm of alarming news, polarised opinions and whatever social media decides to show us next?

For me, that curiosity began with my hypnobirthing experience back in 2018, where I first learned to use breathing and imagination to cope. That experience stayed with me. Could I use what I'd learned to handle everyday stress too? Between work and motherhood, I often felt
I hadn't done enough. My brain wouldn't rest at night until I'd finish self-criticising and coming up with a "plan" to do better the next day.
It was exhausting, unhelpful, and not sustainable.I started exploring neuroscience and mental health, and that eventually led me to train in CBH. It helped me recognise my own patterns and learn how to gradually respond more helpfully. The logical side of me can well relate to the evidence-based approach in CBH. Better still, its client-centred approach makes complete sense to me. It offers a structured way to find clarity, with personalised direction and practical steps to work on.My biggest hope is that learning resilience skills can help us find our own pockets of joy in everyday life, and I believe that's also something we can support our children with and set them up for success. To me, that's part of the essential foundation for a better world that we can all thrive in.

P.S. Sometimes, knowing where to start with a "problem" can feel like a challenge in itself. My previous career in management consulting and project management taught me pragmatic skills in decision-making, prioritisation and problem-solving. If helpful, we can also explore these in greater depth alongside our therapeutic work.

05 / what to expect

.

Your therapy plan will evolve as we go, drawing on insights
from the consultation and ongoing conversations,
your goals, progress and feedback.

These illustrative examples show how we might work together.

Scenario 1: Feeling overwhelmed, then guilty about your "over-reactions"

You feel constantly stressed by everyday demands and find yourself losing patience with loved ones, then feeling guilty afterwards.

We might use mindfulness to notice when and where tension arises, and practise appropriate intervention to help you regain calmness. Hypnosis could help you rehearse pausing or stepping back from an unhelpful train of thoughts. Cognitive work could help to find more balanced ways of identifying and reframing negative self-talk. Between sessions, homework might involve noticing early signs of overwhelm and trying a different response in an everyday situation.

Scenario 2: Anxiety about speaking up or presenting in public

You hold back in conversations, meetings, or presentations, worried about what others might think, then replay what you wish you had said.

We might explore your thoughts and feelings in those moments. We could examine and challenge the interpretations behind them. Hypnosis and role-play offer opportunities to rehearse new responses whilst allowing for some natural nervousness. Behavioural exercises could help you test your expectations in practice. Homework might include completing a manageable task in the situation you find difficult and reflecting on what happened.

Scenario 3: Feeling criticised or unfairly treated

Difficult interactions leave you tense or upset, and expressing your needs feels uneasy

Our work might combine cognitive exercise with practical problem-solving to explore what happened, how you interpreted it, and what options you have. Role-play could give you the space to practise expressing your needs, setting boundaries, and responding to disagreement. Between sessions, you might try an agreed communication step and reflect on what you would like to adjust.

Scenario 4: Fear that leads to avoidance

Fear of a particular situation, such as an appointment involving needles, keeps you putting it off even when it matters to your well-being.

We might explore what you expect to happen, build your understanding of the anxiety response, and agree on gradual steps towards approaching the situation. This could include rehearsal during hypnosis before trying behavioural exercises in real life. Homework would build on those steps, giving you opportunities to practise responding to anxiety whilst doing something important to you.

06 / FAQ

.

Your questions answered

.

Many psychological therapies share common elements. CBH brings together cognitive behavioural therapy, clinical hypnosis and mindfulness. I may also draw on ACT to help you transform how you relate to difficult thoughts and feelings when they arise, whilst taking action towards your goals.

What distinguishes the work is how these elements come together here and are tailored to you. Your therapist’s training, therapy style, and the working relationship you build together also matter.

Our complimentary fit call gives you the opportunity to understand how I work, ask questions, and decide whether CBH feels right for you.

We begin with a 90-minute consultation to understand your situation and goals. This informs the proposed number of sessions, usually around 5 to 8 therapy sessions, depending on your needs.

Therapy sessions last 60 minutes and usually take place weekly. We review progress throughout, with a dedicated review before your last planned session to discuss next steps, which may include further sessions.

Change can feel challenging, and you are welcome to tell me when something feels uncomfortable or unhelpful. I will explain the purpose of each exercise, and we can adapt the approach and pace together.

Practice between sessions is agreed with you, taking your goals, preferences, and everyday commitments into account. You can ask questions or pause an exercise at any time. We can explore together how best to adapt the exercises to you. You can also choose not to continue therapy after the paid sessions.

However, please note that if you choose to stop (not pausing) before completing the agreed sessions, the fees paid would not be refundable. For example, if you paid for the agreed 5 therapy sessions but decided to stop after 3 sessions, the remaining 2 sessions would not be refunded.

Please let me know during the fit call if you are receiving another form of therapy. It may be helpful to discuss your plans with your existing therapist.

With your consent, we may liaise to avoid conflicting approaches and coordinate the work. In some circumstances, it may be more appropriate to begin CBH after your current therapy has finished.

If a serious concern about your health and safety or about someone else arises, it may be necessary to contact your GP or other appropriate services. You will have an opportunity to review client confidentiality and its limits in the therapy contract or relevant documents before therapy begins.

As with all psychological treatments, CBH is more helpful for some people than others, and specific outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

We will agree on goals that are meaningful to you. Your feedback and my clinical observations will inform how we assess progress towards these goals. Together, we can adapt the approach, pace, and level of challenge so the exercises remain purposeful and manageable for you.
